Create an eye catching display
Gallery walls have been around for along time and I'm sure we have all seen the hints and tips on how to hang them. So let's dig deeper into the curation stage and break a few rules along the way!
Unusual Places
One of the joys of a gallery wall is that they can go almost anywhere. This decision is down to how you want them to be viewed. Is it a focal point? Or even a style setter for the space .
Alternatively the gallery could have a 'curiosity shop' effect - whereby it is found rather than featured.
Eclectic
Making an eclectic gallery wall work is difficult but done successfully can add a level of sophistication and interest. In order for it to have character the subjects should be things you really do love and enjoy or that have meaning. This will give the display much more personality. This may mean that your items seem random when placed together. This is where cohesion comes into play to create that sophisticated look. Below are some examples of cohesive elements to spark ideas.
A Protagonist Piece
It is not essential to choose a centre stage piece - as I stated earlier , rules are there to be broken. However, what a main piece can add is a focal point which may help the gallery tie in with the rest of the room. It will also allow for your favourite item to shine amongst the rest. In which case to make it a feature it must have characteristics to set it apart. Perhaps make it larger than the others, a different frame, let it be the only piece with or without colour. Below are examples of how to create a stand out piece within a gallery wall.
